Grateful.

As I was walking home post shift, I took a deep breath in.

Felt the cool breeze on my skin.

The trees rustling above me and the steady night sky.

Exhale.

I was grateful to be walking home.

Healthy, happy and my heart full.

I had spent the evening after work with a beautiful soul, we talked about our values, lives and hopes for the future. I thought to myself, this is what life is about.

Creative discourse. Empowerment. Authenticity.

We chatted about how important it is to empower others. How enriching it is to help those in need and nourishing it is when we can do the same for ourselves.  From the chaos of the emergency department, we sat quietly sat there eating our ice cream.

A truly human connection.

I realized how amazing it is to be able to share moments of life and death with the people I work with everyday.

Like Sherpa,

we guide many.

Some survive and others don’t, but we remain constant. We don’t ask for much in return nor do we set high expectations. We do it for the sake of others, which in turn can sometimes serve us as well. It can be draining, mentally and physically.

What keeps us going?

Our ability to share these unique moments with each other. To transcend traditional small talk for deep meaningful conversations that fill our hearts with emotion.

Happiness, sadness, anger, disgust, excitement.

Every raw emotion you can think of…….we share it.

the Ebb and sometimes turbulent flow.

regardless of the nature of the journey

I take another breath in

my lungs fill.
